New iPad Rumored to Feature 4G

It sounds like the new iPad will be announced on March 7^th and will carry a few new surprises with it. The legions of Apple fans are currently embroiled in a debate about what exactly to call the thing. Is it the iPad 3? Is it simply an iPad 2 with an upgrade display? For now, the name is not as important as the rumored features, which are quite impressive.

First of all, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, unnamed sources close to the subject are saying that the new iPad will feature 4G connectivity. This is huge news from a company that features zero 4G devices in its arsenal. It is surprising that Apple has made such a name for itself and become the biggest dealer of smartphones and tablets in the world without having any 4G devices.

Apparently the new tablet would have the upgraded connectivity available through Verizon Wireless and AT&T. These two companies have used massive amounts of resources and billions of dollars to upgrade their 4G networks so they will both be delighted to hear that their expensive projects might be getting some serious traffic in the coming months.

In addition to the upgraded connectivity, the iPad 4G as some are calling it, will also feature the Retina Display that has made the iPhone 4S such a joy to look at. The technology is so crisp that users can’t even make out the individual pixels on the screen. This technology coupled with higher connectivity means a lot of things. Among them: movie streaming on the device will be a breeze and will look fantastic, gaming on the device will be great, downloading and viewing high-res images will be easier than ever.

Whether the next iPad incarnation will actually have any of this technology remains to be seen. It’s all speculation at this point, but if the sources the Wall Street Journal quoted are as close to the situation as they sound, there’s a good chance that on March 7^th you’ll hear it straight from Apple that they are getting ready to put the iPad 4G on store shelves.
